NURSING 531. Mental Health in The Elderly Three Credits This elective course presents an overview of mental health and aging that is grounded in an integrated biopsychosocial approach to human behavior. Designed to bring professionals up to date on society's approach to the basic issues that confront those in the field of aging, it features exploration of issues related to prevention, recognition, and management of major psychiatric disorders affecting the elderly in a variety of settings. Content includes tools for assessment of mental health and functional status and responses to problematic behaviors. Research related to course topics will be evaluated in terms of its applicability to clinical practice. |
